Experience Breathtaking Views and Whale Watching at the Iconic Hornby Lighthouse!

Located near Watsons Bay in Sydney Harbour National Park, the imposing Hornby Lighthouse proudly stands at South Head. With its distinctive red and white stripes, this iconic tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of its surroundings. To the west, Sydney Harbour stretches out, while to the north, one can behold the majestic sights of Middle Head and North Head. Finally, to the east lies the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. As an added bonus, this spot is ideal for observing whales during the winter months.

Constructed in 1858 in response to the tragic wrecking of the Dunbar at South Head, Hornby Lighthouse was the third lighthouse to be erected in New South Wales. The talented colonial architect Alexander Dawson was responsible for its design.

Accessing Hornby Lighthouse is made easy through the South Head heritage trail, a leisurely pathway that commences at Camp Cove in Watsons Bay. Along this trail, visitors can admire historic gun emplacements before reaching the magnificent Hornby Lighthouse.
